Holy Cross hospital celebrates expansion

The only hospital serving a large part of the city of Chicago opened an enlarged and renovated emergency room Saturday.Illinois House Speaker Mike Madigan and other government officials attended a ribbon-cutting ceremony organized by Holy Cross hospital and its executives.

Bishop Gustavo Garcia-Silar blessed the new facility.

Holy Cross's previous emergency room was built for 35,000 patients a year, but treated 50,000 last year.

The new emergency room can serve 55,000 annually and features state-of-the-art electronic medical records.

The Southwest Side hospital also has new technology for assessment, diagnostics, and treatment.
