Jackson was chosen thanks to an essay she wrote for Black History Month. Neely said she was inspired by Jackson's essay on her number one value, "Working hard."
Jackson plans to attend Kendall College to study culinary arts.

February 25, 2009 (CHICAGO) Chicago treasurer Stephanie Neely interrupted a class at Harlan High School to present a $1,000 check to Arica Jackson.
She didn't know she had won the scholarship.
