February 25, 2009 (CHICAGO) --There was a big surprise for a South Side high school student. She received a college scholarship.Chicago treasurer Stephanie Neely interrupted a class at Harlan High School to present a $1,000 check to Arica Jackson. She didn't know she had won the scholarship.
Jackson was chosen thanks to an essay she wrote for Black History Month. Neely said she was inspired by Jackson's essay on her number one value, "Working hard."
Jackson plans to attend Kendall College to study culinary arts.
