Civic leaders rally against political corruption

February 26, 2009 (CHICAGO) Business, professional, non-profit... and philanthropic groups are involved.

The first priority of the non-partisan Change Illinois coalition will be to reduce the influence of large campaign contributors. They say fallout from the Rod Blagojevich scandal makes reform essential.

"The state has seen corruption of public officials for over four decades, a continuous parade to the penitentiary," said Peter Bensinger, former Drug Enforcement Agency administrator.

The coalition would like to see strict limits on the amount of money that can be given to candidates and political action committees.
