On-screen alcohol may drive people to drink

March 4, 2009 A study in the journal Alcohol and Alcoholism monitored the behavior of 80 young people while they watched television.

Researchers found those who saw lots of alcohol references drank on average one and a half more bottles of beer during the hour they were watching.

Researchers say this is the first study to show a direct effect of exposure to alcohol on Tv to a viewer's behavior.

What the study does not address is whether watching alcohol on screen has any effect on long-term behavior.
