Study: Booze hits older drinkers faster

March 5, 2009 A new study finds older adults who are social drinkers can become impaired by alcohol after only one or two drinks and not realize it.

Most studies on drinking are done with college students and involve binge drinking. But little attention has been paid to the effects of social drinking among older adults.

In this study the same amount of alcohol resulted in a slower reaction time in older adults.

Researchers say the take home message here is that it doesn't take much alcohol to result in impairment and people should consider this before engaging in potentially dangerous task such as driving.
