Chicago principal resigning over violation

March 6, 2009 (CHICAGO) Rito Martinez has been a Golden Apple teacher, worked to get scholarships for good students at his school and been called a star principal.

But Martinez has resigned as principal of Social Justice High, admitting to students and staff that he knowingly was in violation of a Chicago Public Schools policy that principals had to live in the city.

Martinez admitted moving to Oak Park nearly three years ago when he and his wife were expecting their first child. His resignation is effective at the end of June.
