Protesters mark Tibetan uprising

March 10, 2009 (CHICAGO) More than 1,000 Tibetans and their supporters marked the 50th anniversary of the Tibetan national Uprising Day. Many came from surrounding areas, including Indiana, Michigan, and Minnesota.

The 2-mile march started along Michigan Avenue and ended at the Chinese consulate on West Erie.

The protesters stand in solidarity with the people of Tibet who continue to resist China's rule.

In 1959, tens of thousands of Tibetans protested China's occupation of Tibet.

Each year on this day supporters honor the courage of Tibetans who died fighting for their freedom.
