March 12, 2009 (CHICAGO) --If you own a pet in Chicago, you may soon be required to have it sterilized. On Thursday, a city council committee is expected to vote on a proposal to require nearly all Chicago pet owners to spay or neuter their cats and dogs.
Among the exceptions to the ordinance are guard dogs, show dogs and breeders' dogs.
The Chicago Veterinary Medical Association objects. It says decisions about medical procedures belong to pet owners and medical professionals.
