A new study from San Diego State University finds people need to walk at a brisk pace about 100 steps per minute. This, according to researchers, raises heart rate and alters metabolism enough to meet the guidelines for moderate exercise. It translates into 3,000 steps per 30 minute session.
Any amount of exercise is helpful, but researchers say brisk walking will improve circulation and lung function in ways a slow stroll cannot.
Health experts recommend adults exercise at least 30 minutes per day, five times a week.
