Chicago police receive awards

March 26, 2009 (CHICAGO) Commendation awards were given to 150 police officers.

Another 10 awards were given to civilians for their efforts in lifesaving, problem solving in the community and special services.

Department officials say the honorees deserve the city's thanks.

"The men and women being honored today represent the best of the best by their exceptional effort," said James Jackson, assistant police superintendent.

The special services award went to a group of residents that established a police department museum in the 9th district on the South Side.
