Mother of slain woman speaks publicly

March 28, 2009 (CHICAGO) In January, 24-year-old Nova Henry and her 10-month-old daughter Ava were found murdered in their South Loop home.

Henry's 3-year-old son Noah was not hurt. NBA player Eddie Curry is the boy's father.

After the murder, the boy's grandmother stepped in to care for him. However, lawyers said Nova Henry and Curry had an agreement that he would get custody of the child in the event of her death. Earlier in March, a court awarded custody of the child to Curry.

Since then, Nova Henry's mother has seen the boy just once.

"He's still dealing with the fact that he does not have a mother and a sister. Now, he doesn't have a family that he knew to grow up with. And I just hope, and I know that he is being taken care of, I just hope that we are still able to be included with his raising," Yolan Henry told ABC7 Chicago.

Prosecutors have charged Frederick Goings with the murders of Nova Henry and her daughter.

Yolan Henry was speaking Saturday at an event held by Cook County sheriff candidate Sylvester Baker.
