Police say when Ellison was arrested March 18 on drug charges, he had strapped the palm-sized hand gun to the front of his pants. Officers had patted down Ellison three different times after his arrest. But no weapon was found.
Investigators say just before Ellison was about to be strip-searched at the jail, he tossed the gun into the laundry, where it was later found.
