Closing arguments in bar beating case

April 1, 2009 (CHICAGO) Sergeant Jeff Planey took the stand in his own defense Tuesday. He denies any wrongdoing in the 2006 altercation.

The case is based largely on surveillance video from the Jefferson Tap bar. But the confrontations were mostly out of camera range.

Planey testified that one of the alleged victims was egging other people into violence. He says he forced that man out of the bar to prevent the conflict from escalating. Under cross-examination, Planey admitted that another officer, Paul Powers, was acting aggressively.

Planey, Powers and another officer are charged with aggravated battery.
