Financial help is on the way for Illinois schools. The state is getting the first round of school dollars from the Obama administration's stimulus plan this week.

Half of the dollars for federal programs that fund kindergarten through 12th grade and special education are being made available.

Education secretary Arne Duncan is also providing applications for states to get money from a special fund to stabilize state and local budgets.
