Study: Acupuncture no help for hot flashes

April 7, 2009 A new study says acupuncture may not help relieve hot flashes in women undergoing menopause.

The review of 106 studies by researchers in South Korea and Britain found no convincing evidence that acupuncture is beneficial for women.

They narrowed down to six the ones they considered the most relevant. Only one reported positive effects of acupuncture on the frequency and severity of hot flashes.

Researchers say women wanting relief from menopausal symptoms should consult their physicians.
