New pavilions to open at Millennium Park

April 8, 2009 (CHICAGO) Two new pavilions will open at the park to honor the 100th anniversary of the Burnham Plan, the 1909 plan by Daniel Burnham that helped create the city we know today.

Zaha Hadid of London has created an aluminum-framed, kind of snail-like design for one pavilion. It will have oblong slits for skylights.

The second design is from Ben Van Berkel of Amsterdam. The pavilion is an open form with a flat canopy. It will have colorful nighttime lighting.

The pavilions open June 19.
