700,000 eggs donated to food bank

April 9, 2009 (CHICAGO) Chicago area egg farmers delivered more than 700,000 eggs on Thursday morning.

Eggs are always a prized item at food banks because of their high nutritional value.

This is the largest donation to any city in the United States and equals three tractor trailers of eggs.

"So the food depository has right in front of us about 250,000 eggs that will be distributed out into the community next week," said Leah Ray, Greater Chicago Food Depository.

This donation is part of a nationwide partnership with egg farmers. A total of 94 food banks are receiving eggs to help feed those in need.
