New option for dealing with menopause symptoms

April 13, 2009 A new study finds a drug by the name Pristiq is a safe and effective treatment for hot flashes in postmenopausal women.

Pristiq belongs to a class of drugs called SRIs used to treat depression.

Researchers reporting in the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology say, while hormone therapy is the most effective treatment for hot flashes and night sweats, there remains a need for safe and effective non-hormonal agents.
