A suburban softball league paid tribute Saturday to members of the Englehardt family who were murdered in April in Hoffman Estates.Players and coaches in the Schaumburg Athletic Association's summer league wore patches of remembrance on their uniforms for Saturday's opening day ceremony. The jerseys of Laura Englehardt, a league player, and her father Al, who served as a coach, were displayed as a tribute.
"Al will be remembered for his dedication to helping the players improve their skills and wanting them to have fun playing the game that Laura and he shared a passion for," said Denise Higgins, team manager.
Laura Englehardt's mother, Shelly, attended Saturday's ceremony. She was injured in the April attack at the family home but survived.
