Quitting cigs may be tougher for teens

May 5, 2009 A new study finds high school students who smoke cigarettes and try to quit often fail.

Experts say, despite their relatively short smoking histories, many adolescents who smoke are nicotine dependent and such dependence can lead to daily smoking.

The new findings come from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Scientists say this data suggests the importance of targeting young smokers with stop-smoking counseling while their likelihood of success in quitting is greatest.
