May 5, 2009 (HAMMOND, Ind.) --A northwest Indiana mother and her boyfriend face child neglect charges after police say they left four children alone while they bought crack cocaine. The Lake County Sheriff's Department says Pamela Jo Heth and Ralph Hammond, of Rensselaer, left Heth's children in a Hammond motel for four hours with no food or money. Her 15-year-old son called police. The youngest child is 5 years old.
Investigators say the boy also told them Heth and Hammond would sell their food stamps for drugs.
