Madrid may enjoy the highest level of public support for hosting the Olympic Games of any city in the competition to host the 2016 Summer Olympics. The Olympic watchers at aroundtherings.com report an International Olympic Committee poll found 85% of Spaniards support bringing the Games to Madrid. While the results are down a bit from the 92% public support Madrid's bid committee claims, the number is believed to be higher than enthusiasm in other cities.

Chicago's Olympic bid committee conducted a poll that found 76% support for hosting the Games. The IOC conducted a similar survey earlier this year, and sources say its results are not dramatically lower. However Chicago 2016 and the IOC have refused to release the survey results. A Chicago Tribune poll in February found public support at only 64-percent.

Tokyo reportedly suffers the worst level of local enthusiasm for bringing the Games to town. Reuters reports the IOC survey found only 56% of residents were in favor of Tokyo becoming a host city. Rio de Janeiro is believed to have enthusiastic support among Brazilians for its bid. However, no poll results have ever been released.
