Does Madrid want the Olympics more than Chicago?

May 7, 2009 (CHICAGO) The Olympic watchers at aroundtherings.com report an International Olympic Committee poll found 85% of Spaniards support bringing the Games to Madrid. While the results are down a bit from the 92% public support Madrid's bid committee claims, the number is believed to be higher than enthusiasm in other cities.

Chicago's Olympic bid committee conducted a poll that found 76% support for hosting the Games. The IOC conducted a similar survey earlier this year, and sources say its results are not dramatically lower. However Chicago 2016 and the IOC have refused to release the survey results. A Chicago Tribune poll in February found public support at only 64-percent.

Tokyo reportedly suffers the worst level of local enthusiasm for bringing the Games to town. Reuters reports the IOC survey found only 56% of residents were in favor of Tokyo becoming a host city. Rio de Janeiro is believed to have enthusiastic support among Brazilians for its bid. However, no poll results have ever been released.
