Losing job may be health risk

May 8, 2009 A study from the Harvard School of Public Health finds that those who lose their job are more likely to suffer from high blood pressure, heart disease, stroke or diabetes.

Researchers say what's really surprising is even if the person in question finds a new job relatively quickly, the health risk remains.

In addition, job loss increased the odds of a person developing a new "stress related" health problem by 83 percent.

The report is based on older surveys from 1991, 2001 and 2003.
