May 15, 2009 (CHICAGO) --A Will County man charged with the beating death of his mentally disabled foster child appeared in court on Friday.Kevin Johnson, 12, died last July. His foster parent, 43-year-old Fred Johnson II, was arrested Thursday morning in connection with the boy's death. Fred Johnson, who is the husband of the boy's step-sister, is charged with first-degree murder, aggravated battery and unlawful restraint.
Prosecutors say he tied the 12-year-old to a bed frame with straps and beat him at their home in Crete.
Eight other children lived in the home, four of them are Kevin's brothers.
All of those children are in protective custody.
