2 firefighters rescued from building

May 15, 2009 (CHICAGO) The firefighters pulled Captain Kevin Kennelly and Lieutenant Steve Mientus out of the two story building at 7244 South Ashland Avenue. They had gone upstairs to make sure no one was stuck inside when the stairs collapsed under them.

"Our axiom is to risk a lot to save a lot. We knew it was an occupied building so we went up, knowing there was a fire at the top of the stairs," said Capt. Kevin Kennelly Chicago Fire Department.

The two men fell into the basement. The other firefighters got them out by lowering a ladder to them.
