May 20, 2009 (CHICAGO) --A former Chicago public high school principal has died while scuba diving with her daughter off the Brazilian coast. Sixty-year-old Irene Damota resigned from Roberto Clemente High School three years ago. Her career with the Chicago Public Schools spanned more than 32 years.
Damota moved to Brazil in 2006 and soon turned her home into a school for Brazilian and international students.
Students and staff of Roberto Clemente held a moment of silence for Damato Wednesday. Services are pending.
