Chicago radio sees shakeup

May 22, 2009 (CHICAGO) Kathy and Judy signed off on Friday afternoon at WGN AM 720 after 20 years on the air.

On Friday morning, the station announced it's dropping the 9 a.m to noon show of "The Girlfriends" as they're known to their fans.

WGN management said it was time to move in a new direction.

And its the end of an era for smooth jazz at Clear Channel's WNUA FM 95.5. Jazz musician and DJ Ramsey Lewis said goodbye to fans on Friday morning.

Station officials explain it was a business decision. Lewis says he'll miss his job.

"When it finally happens, yeah there's some emotions there. I think mainly emotions regretting not being with the people you've been working with, regretting not being able to interact with the audience," said Ramsey Lewis, jazz musician.

Lewis says he has a weekend show in the works. And now he'll use his free mornings to write music and practice his piano.
