Daley: Everybody 'frustrated' by parking glitch

May 28, 2009 (CHICAGO) Two hundred and fifty of the boxes stopped working because of an electronic malfunction. The company that runs the meters is not saying what caused the malfunction.

No parking tickets were written in the loop and surrounding areas for most of the day.

"Let's be realistic. Everybody is frustrated about what took place yesterday. A glitch that took place. Everybody is frustrated. This company is performing. It has to perform much better. I've told them that. One of the problems with it, we should have had the transition for 4 months. That's our fault," said Mayor Daley.

The mayor says taking over all of the city's 36,000 parking meters at one time may have been too much for the company.

He dismissed calls from some aldermen to cancel the $1.15 billion lease.
