June 12, 2009 (EAST CHICAGO, Ind.) --
A mobile office of the Mexican Consulate in Chicago is at East Chicago High School this week and is expected to draw more than 1,000 people seeking passport renewals, identification cards and other services. The mobile office opened Wednesday for four days of operations in the fifth consecutive year that the Mexican government has offered a branch consulate in Lake County.
Because of the demand for services among Mexican citizens currently living in northwest Indiana, Raul Sanchez of the International Institute of La Casa says clients were being asked to make appointments when they arrive at the school. The institute is helping to staff the mobile consulate.
Services began Wednesday. They continue from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. CDT Friday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.
