Man arrested on animal cruelty charges

30 animals rescued in alleged illegal breeding scheme
June 19, 2009 Investigators say 44-year-old Danny Vithoulkas faces charges of cruel treatment to animals, operating as a dog dealer without a license and possession of dangerous animals.

The sheriff's department provided video of the animals. They included dogs, coyotes and an arctic fox.

Investigators police say they were living in filthy conditions. Many were in shopping carts being used as cages.

The sheriff's department plans to send the coyotes and fox to a wildlife refuge.

The dogs will eventually be put up for adoption.
