June 25, 2009 (ROCHESTER, Ind.) --
A northern Indiana judge has ordered a former doctor jailed until it's determined whether he violated his probation for having sex with a 14-year-old girl more than 25 years ago. A probation officer told a Fulton County judge on Wednesday that Paul Hess violated probation rules by having a computer with Internet access and being suspended from a sex offender rehabilitation program.
Hess pleaded guilty last year to the child molesting, which happened in 1980 and 1981 after the girl was hired to clean Hess' home and office in Rochester. Hess wasn't arrested until 2007 when the FBI located him in Michigan City.
Defense attorney Richard Oren argued for Hess to remain free, saying he isn't a flight risk because of heart problems and has not missed any probation appointments.
