June 25, 2009 (JOLIET, Ill.) --The Empress Casino is up and running Thursday, about three months after a fire destroyed a large part of the property. The rebuilt casino in Joliet opened its doors Thursday morning. The new facility includes a remodeled two-deck casino with new carpeting, lighting and big-screen TVs.
A new high-limit gaming area has been added to the lower level.
The fire in March shut down the casino for 90 days, but the employees were paid their full salaries and a portion of their tips.
