June 25, 2009 (CHICAGO) --
A Chicago alderman and judge received campaign donations from a developer at the center of a City Hall bribery scandal, according to published reports. The Chicago Tribune reports that both Alderman Ed Burke and Judge Anne Burke got campaign donations from Calvin Boender while he was pushing to build a $35 million development near Midway Airport.
Boender, who was indicted last month in a bribery scandal, also hosted a political fundraiser for Judge Burke. He received crucial support for his real estate project from Ald. Burke.
A spokesperson for Anne Burke said she was unaware of Boender's business before the council and she has given his donations to charity.
Ed Burke has declined to comment.
