Indiana mom competes to be supermodel

June 30, 2009 Jamie Penrod is a finalist in a national television show that will select the next up and coming model.

Hers is a busy life. Between being a mom to 5-year-old Caitlyn, 12-year-old Jake and 14-year-old Brandon, Jamie Penrod of Hobart, Indiana is able to balance her parental duties with the job of managing her husband's construction business. One day, she took a break and found her self in a line of contestants in Chicago for the show "She's Got the Look."

"I remember standing in line pretty early with a bunch of other girls and everyone kind of checking each other out and then going into the tent and you get past the first round and not believing…I mean I thought I might stand out," said Penrod.

She did stand out and is now one of 10 finalists hoping to be the next great supermodel over 35.

"In reality, you are being judged. I'm pretty sure I'm the one who has done no TV show modeling or author of books or things like that and I was the youngest one there. I missed home," said Penrod.

In the time away to do the show she had solid family support.

"She's really great for going on and it's really cool and I'm proud of her," said Brandon, Wazniak, Jamie's son.

"It kind of empowered me to see that women, diverse groups of women, from 35 to 72, had all this life in them and to do anything," said Penrod.

The show can be seen Thursday at 9 p.m. on the TVLand channeL. The top prize is $100,000 at the end of the competition.
