July 1, 2009 --Sony's Walkman turns 30 years old today. The portable combination radio, cassette tape player was the first to provide music on the go when it hit the market back in 1979. Today it's struggling to survive against digital music players like the i-Pod.
Over the years, the walkman has evolved from cassettes to compact discs, then mini discs and now digital music.
Sony has sold 385 million walkmans worldwide in its 30 years.
