Crain's: Children's Museum may be in trouble

July 12, 2009 (CHICAGO) The report claims the tough economy and rising costs could kill the project.

The city council Okayed the plans over heated objections only a year ago.

Crain's reports that fundraising has been hurt, while the cost for the project has risen from an estimated $85 million to well over $100 million. It says the board is considering several options, including downsizing.

The Chicago Children's Museum, however, disputes the article in a statement they released.

The statement says the "Chicago Children's Museum is moving forward with the plan to relocate to Daley Bicentennial Plaza in Grant Park. There is no news to report in that regard. Greg Hinz's piece in Crain's Chicago Business relies only on unnamed sources, and should be viewed with extreme skepticism."
