We know being heavy is not good for our bodies and that extra weight can take a toll on our joints. But there's new insight as to why obesity can lead to arthritis. New research coming out in the journal Radiology finds obesity actually increases the risk of rapid cartilage loss. And that can lead to osteoarthritis, the most common type of arthritis.

Doctors involved in the study noted that weight was the biggest factor in cartilage loss and that taking off pounds is probably the best way to combat the condition.
