Veterans protest soldier's shooting in Harvey

July 14, 2009 (CHICAGO) The group stood outside the community center where Sanders was struck by a stray bullet over the weekend. The veterans prayed and said they must band together to stop the violence at home.

They say the Sanders family is the fourth known family to have lost a war hero at home to senseless violence.

"We are recruiting soldiers, real soldiers to take the community back. It should not happen again. It's time for us to stand up. It's time for us to wake up, and it's time for us to take our communities back," Sanders' sister Meochia Thompson said.

One suspect is in custody, but Harvey police are still looking for a second person in connection with the shooting. No charges have been filed.
