Schaumburg removes red-light camera

July 15, 2009 (CHICAGO) At least 60 Illinois municipalities, including the City of Chicago are giving red-light cameras a try.

In Schaumburg, cameras were trained on the busy intersection of Mecham and Woodfield roads.

The village says the program produced no improvements in safety while producing plenty of angry protests from ticketed motorists.

Red light camera systems nab motorists who run red lights or make rolling stops before turning right on red.

Violators receive $100 tickets in the mail.
