Vigil held for prison reform

July 16, 2009 (CHICAGO) Church leaders, lawmakers and prison reformers came together at the Thompson Center, calling for changes at Tamms Prison downstate. The prison has been criticized for human rights abuses.

Those taking part Thursday offered prayers for prisoners and others.

Organizers praised the work of Governor Pat Quinn and lawmakers trying to make prisons safer for staff and inmates.
