Bill Kurtis' son dies

July 20, 2009 (CHICAGO) According to a press release from Kurtis Productions, Scott Kurtis passed away early on Monday morning. His death is believed to be the result of complications from schizophrenia.

Scott Kurtis was raised in Chicago where his father was the co-anchor of the WBBM-TV News for many years. He attended Lincoln Park Elementary School and graduated from the Chicago Academy for the Arts.

Scott's mother, Helen, died of breast cancer when Scott was 6 years old.

For the past 10 years, Scott Kurtis lived and worked at Bill's Red Buffalo Ranch in Sedan, Kansas, not far from where Bill Kurtis was born and raised.

Scott had one sister, Mary Kristin.

An autopsy has been scheduled.
