Chicago schools probing enrollment practices

July 22, 2009 (CHICAGO) CEO Ron Huberman on Wednesday said his office has learned selective-enrollment policies may have been violated.

Students must compete to get into the district's nine selective-enrollment high schools.

In a news release, Huberman says he's asked the inspector general's office to investigate. He also says an auditing firm will review the process.

Huberman didn't elaborate, and a district spokeswoman didn't immediately return a phone call from The Associated Press.

Messages left with the Chicago Teachers Union and the office that handles enrollment also weren't immediately returned.
