July 28, 2009 (CHICAGO) --
A gas line break forced people to evacuate homes and businesses Tuesday morning on Chicago's far Southwest Side. Peoples Gas says a construction crew hit a gas line around 9 a.m. near 111th Street and Spaulding in the city's Mount Greenwood neighborhood.
People from about 20 nearby homes and businesses were evacuated for a half hour until the gas line could be repaired. Gas was shut off to about 70 customers during the repairs.
Crews from People's Gas spent the afternoon re-lighting customers' pilot lights.
No one was injured.
