Day proclaimed for Sox pitcher

July 30, 2009 (CHICAGO) Governor Pat Quinn, who just happens to be a Chicago White Sox fan, will proclaim Thursday Mark Buehrle Day in the state of Illinois.

Last week Buehrle threw the 18th perfect game in Major League history against the Tampa Bay Rays. SLIDESHOW: Perfect Game In his next start, on Tuesday, Buehrle broke the big league record, by retiring the first 17 batters for a total of 45 outs in a row before the Minnesota Twins got a hit in the sixth inning.

The governor will make the proclamation at U. S. Cellular Field before the game against the New York Yankees.
