UI clout panel hashing out report recommendations

The state commission reviewing the role that clout played in the admissions process at the University of Illinois is hashing out what recommendations will go into a report for Gov. Pat Quinn. Commission Chairman Abner Mikva said Friday that he wants to recommend that Quinn ask all university trustees to resign.

All of the commissioners agreed with Mikva except Maribeth Vander Weele.

She says not all of the trustees were involved in influencing the admissions process or knew that it was happening. She says they shouldn't be faulted.

She also disagreed with commissioners who said the board doesn't have the jurisdiction to recommend resignations from university leaders.

Other commissioners say they should just include testimony from the leaders in their report.
