Study: X-ray machines help spread bacteria

August 6, 2009 A study at one hospital by the American College of Chest Physicians found adequate hygiene by technicians, and cleaning measures of x-ray equipment was performed only 10 percent of the time. As a result, anti-biotic resistant bacteria was found on the machines 50 percent of the time.

The study's authors are advising hospitals to use intervention programs to continually encourage better hygiene and cleaning techniques to prevent or reduce infection.
