Authorities have now charged him with five murders there between 1984 and 1995. Urdiales moved to Illinois in 1996.
He was convicted of killing three Illinois women in 2002 and 2004. Urdiales is now appealing his death sentence, and when that process is over, he will be extradited to California to face the latest charges.
