Cabbies urged to take day off for 'prayer and meditation'

August 10, 2009 (CHICAGO) The publisher of The Chicago Dispatcher newspaper, George Lutfallah, created this effort. He hopes that city officials pay closer attention to the problems cab drivers face on the streets of Chicago.

"It's not a strike...We're not trying to cause any damage to the city," said Lutfallah. "We're trying raise awareness to the serious problems that we have here."

"It is one thing-- if you look at what is going on in Chicago, in New York, and all there is to it is respect, lack of respect for the taxi driver," said John Henry Assabill, cab driver.

Lutfallah points to the long list of cab drivers who have been murdered while on the job in Chicago.
