Bond denied in parents' deaths

A man accused of killing his parents at their South Side home appeared in bond court Tuesday.A judge denied bond for Bernard Simmons and scheduled a preliminary hearing for August 31st.

He is charged with the murders of his parents-- 70-year-old Bernard Smith and 63-year-old Geraldine Simmons. They were found shot and stabbed to death Saturday afternoon. Their bodies were discovered in the basement of their home near 100th and Eberhart Avenue.

A family member tells ABC7 that Bernard Simmons had come to Chicago recently after serving a prison sentence in Georgia.
