Group pushes fathers' involvement in education

August 14, 2009 (CHICAGO) The Black Star Project has announced its plans for the Million Father March on September 8, the first day of classes for Chicago Public Schools.

Five hundred fifty cities are asked to participate in what is billed as the largest organized back-to-school effort in the U.S.

This is the sixth year for the march. Leaders want to make sure all fathers escort their children to school that day as a pledge of action to ensure their child's well-being and full development.

This year, the march will also reach out to the Latino community. Spanish-speaking coordinators will be talking to Latino families and Spanish literature will also be available.
